Drug Interactions to Consider

Amoxicillin can interact with certain medications. Always inform your doctor or pharmacist about all medications, vitamins, and supplements you’re taking, including over-the-counter drugs.

Specifically, concurrent use with anticoagulants like warfarin may increase bleeding risk. Close monitoring of your INR (International Normalized Ratio) is needed. Similarly, methotrexate’s effect can be intensified by amoxicillin, requiring careful dose adjustment and monitoring for side effects.

Probenecid reduces amoxicillin’s excretion, potentially leading to higher amoxicillin blood levels and increased risk of side effects. Your doctor might adjust your amoxicillin dose if you’re also using probenecid.

Oral contraceptives’ effectiveness might be slightly reduced when taken with amoxicillin. Consider using additional contraceptive methods during treatment.

Lastly, allopurinol taken with amoxicillin increases the chance of skin reactions. Be aware of this possibility and report any unusual skin rashes or allergic reactions to your doctor immediately.
