Monitoring Treatment Progress and Follow-up

Check your hordeolum daily. Note any decrease in swelling, redness, or pain. If the swelling significantly reduces within 2-3 days and pain subsides, this suggests positive response to doxycycline.

Continue the full course of doxycycline, even if symptoms improve rapidly. Stopping early may lead to recurrence. Complete the prescribed medication as directed by your doctor.

Schedule a follow-up appointment with your doctor or ophthalmologist approximately one week after starting treatment, or sooner if symptoms worsen or don’t improve. This allows them to assess your progress and ensure the infection is clearing completely.

Report any new or worsening symptoms immediately, including increased pain, fever, vision changes, or spreading redness. These could indicate a more serious condition requiring different management.

Avoid touching or squeezing the hordeolum. This can worsen the infection and potentially lead to scarring. Maintain good hand hygiene to prevent further spread of bacteria.
