Side Effects: Common and Serious Adverse Reactions

Etodolac, like all medications, carries potential side effects. Common reactions include nausea, indigestion, and abdominal pain. These are usually mild and often resolve without intervention. However, if these symptoms persist or worsen, contact your doctor immediately.

More serious, though less frequent, side effects can involve gastrointestinal bleeding, ulcers, and perforation. These are serious complications requiring prompt medical attention. Signs include black, tarry stools, persistent vomiting of blood, or severe abdominal pain. Seek immediate medical care if you experience any of these.

Allergic reactions, such as skin rash, itching, or swelling, are also possible. In rare cases, a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) can occur, characterized by difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue, and a rapid heartbeat. This is a medical emergency – call emergency services immediately.

Kidney problems are another potential risk, especially in individuals with pre-existing kidney disease. Changes in urination, swelling in the ankles or legs, or unexplained fatigue may indicate kidney complications and need immediate evaluation by a doctor.

While less common, central nervous system effects, including dizziness, headache, and drowsiness, have been reported. Avoid driving or operating machinery if you experience these symptoms. Always consult your physician regarding any concerns about side effects.
