When to Contact Your Doctor

Contact your doctor immediately if you experience severe side effects. This includes, but isn’t limited to, severe abdominal pain, vision changes, difficulty breathing, worsening diabetes symptoms, new or worsening mental health issues, or persistent vomiting or diarrhea.

Report any significant weight gain or fluid retention. Specifically, contact your physician if you gain more than 2 pounds in a day or 5 pounds in a week. This could indicate a problem requiring medical attention.

Monitor your blood sugar closely if you have diabetes. Report any unusual fluctuations to your doctor. Consistent high blood sugar needs immediate management.

Track your blood pressure regularly. Elevated readings should be reported to your healthcare provider. This is especially important during prednisone use.

If you experience any unusual bruising or bleeding, contact your doctor. Prednisone can affect blood clotting.

Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns regarding your prednisone taper, even if they seem minor. Your doctor’s guidance ensures a safe and successful tapering process.
