Pack high SPF sunscreen (SPF 50+ is recommended) and reapply frequently, especially after swimming. The Cypriot sun is intense!
Wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses to protect your face and eyes. Light, loose clothing will help you stay cool.
Stay hydrated! Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty. Avoid excessive alcohol consumption, as it dehydrates you.
Sun Safety for Activities
If you plan on spending time outdoors, particularly during peak sun hours (11 am to 3 pm), seek shade whenever possible. This includes using umbrellas on the beach or finding covered areas for lunch.
For water sports, apply waterproof sunscreen and consider wearing a rash guard for added protection. Stay aware of your body’s limits, especially on the hottest days.
After-Sun Care
After a day in the sun, cool down with a shower and apply after-sun lotion to soothe your skin. Aloe vera gel is also very effective for sunburn relief.
Monitor your skin for signs of sunburn (redness, pain, blistering). Seek medical attention if you experience severe sunburn or other sun-related health problems.
