Amlodipine benazepril combines a calcium channel blocker (amlodipine) and an ACE inhibitor (benazepril). This combination can interact negatively with certain medications. Always inform your doctor of all medications you take, including over-the-counter drugs and supplements.
Potassium-Raising Medications
Avoid concurrent use with potassium-sparing diuretics (e. g., spironolactone, amiloride) or potassium supplements. Benazepril can increase potassium levels, and combining it with these medications significantly raises the risk of hyperkalemia (high potassium), a potentially dangerous condition.
Lithium
Using amlodipine benazepril with lithium can increase lithium levels in your blood, potentially leading to lithium toxicity. Close monitoring of lithium levels is necessary if you must take both medications.
Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs)
NSAIDs (e. g., ibuprofen, naproxen) can reduce the effectiveness of benazepril by decreasing its blood pressure-lowering effects. This combination may increase your risk of kidney problems.
Other Medications
Consult your doctor before combining amlodipine benazepril with the following:
| Other ACE inhibitors or ARBs | Lisinopril, valsartan | Increased risk of low blood pressure, kidney problems |
| Certain antibiotics (e. g., erythromycin) | Erythromycin | May increase amlodipine levels |
| Grapefruit juice | Grapefruit juice | May increase amlodipine levels |
Note:
This information is not exhaustive. Always consult with your physician or pharmacist before starting or stopping any medications, especially when taking amlodipine benazepril.
