Precautions, Interactions, and Contraindications

Before starting Leflunomide, inform your doctor about any existing medical conditions, particularly liver or kidney disease, severe heart problems, low white blood cell count, or tuberculosis. Pregnancy is strictly contraindicated; reliable contraception is mandatory for both men and women during treatment and for at least two years after discontinuation for men and for a duration dictated by your physician for women.

Interactions with Other Medications

Leflunomide interacts with several medications. Concurrent use with teriflunomide is forbidden. Avoid combining it with methotrexate without close medical supervision. Your doctor should carefully monitor you if you are also taking warfarin, digoxin, or oral contraceptives, as adjustments in dosage might be necessary. Always inform your physician of all medications, supplements, and herbal remedies you are taking.

Contraindications and Precautions to Consider

Contraindications include known hypersensitivity to leflunomide or any of its components, significant liver dysfunction, severe kidney impairment, and active severe infections. Caution should be exercised in patients with pre-existing lung diseases or a history of diarrhoea. Regular blood tests to monitor your blood counts are necessary during treatment. Monitor for signs of infection and report any symptoms immediately. Inform your physician of any unusual or concerning symptoms.
