Safely Opening the Capsule: A Step-by-Step Process

Always wash your hands before handling medication.

Preparing for Opening

Gently hold the capsule between your thumb and forefinger. Avoid squeezing too hard. Inspect the capsule for any damage or cracks. If damaged, contact your pharmacist. Find a clean, stable surface to work on. A small plate or counter works well.

Opening the Capsule

Use a clean, sharp utensil, such as a small, sterile knife or a capsule opener (available at most pharmacies). Do not use your teeth or fingernails.

Carefully insert the tip of the utensil into the seam between the capsule halves. Gently twist and separate the two halves. Avoid spilling the contents. Carefully remove the granules from the capsule halves.

Mixing and Administering

Follow the instructions on your prescription for mixing the tamsulosin granules with food or drink. Do not deviate from the prescribed method. Consume the mixture immediately. Dispose of the empty capsule halves properly.

Important Note:

If you experience difficulty opening the capsule, contact your pharmacist or doctor for assistance. Never attempt to force the capsule open. They can provide alternative options or advice.
